2003 Love A Commuter Project Press Release

The Love a Commuter Project 2001 "The Love a Commuter Project" is a site-specific intervention launched by María Alós and Nicolás Dumit Estévez on Valentine's Day, 2001 at the Grand Central Terminal and Times Square subway stations in New York City. That day over six hundred and fifty tokens of affection, consisting of "I Love You" notes and "heart-flowers" were distributed by the artists free-of-charge to those traveling during the holiday. This ephemeral piece allowed subway riders to share a quick moment of intimacy with the artists in a space deemed as "public," a site predominantly functional and impersonal.

2002 Last year the reach of the "Love a Commuter Project" expanded and 19 artists were selected through an open call to perform an intervention of their own. The sites for these pieces included subway stations in Brooklyn, the Bronx and Manhattan. 2003 This coming Valentine's Day "The Love a Commuter Project" will be presented as part of "The S-Files/The Selected Files" at El Museo del Barrio. For this reason "The S-Files" artists as well as participants from 2002 have been invited to submit proposals for interventions.

The 2003 subway stations will include the 103rd St. and Lexington # 6 station and the 110th St. and Lenox # 2 and 3 station For additional information and to learn about "The Love a Commuter 2002" video screening please visit www.elmuseo.org "The S-Files" is an exhibition co-curated by Deborah Cullen, curator, El Museo del Barrio and Victoria Noorthoorn, curator, Museo de arte Latinoamericano de Buenos Aires-Colección Constantini (MALBA).
