Love
is Blind
Nicolás
Dumit Estévez will descend the subway station at 110 St. and Lexington
Avenue, dressed in white and accompanied by an assistant who,
upon reaching the platform, will blind fold him with a silk ribbon
bearing the word Love sprinkled in red glitter. He will carry
an exquisitely elaborate red flower arrangement from which he
will detach one flower at a time and offer it to hurried commuters.
He is interested in literally staging a cliché and presenting
it for examination and experimenting with vulnerability and trust.

Amorgesia
Amorgesia
bandages are designed to soothe pain by their comforting method
of contact with the user. The bandages will distributed by the
artist to commuters at the Main Street Station on the 7 line in
Flushing, Queens, who face some of New York City's longest and
most painful commutes. The Amorgesia bandages will be decorated
individually in the folk art spirit of homemade valentines, and
be applied directly to the skin or to clothing. Although the product
is in fact a placebo, the gesture of giving out Valentine-bandages-rather
than actual pharmaceuticals-is in itself conceived to provide
relief.

the Flame of love on the L Line
Lulu
LoLo will be offering the subway commuters red paper heart-shaped
fans with Valentine greetings on both sides and an image of LuLu
LoLo. The art of LuLu LoLo is stage, cast and backdrop all in
one, wearing the mini-installation of her signature headpiece
she becomes sculpture in transit, a street procession, a float
in a parade--an ongoing interactive festival of life and art.

Love
Tattoo
Tattooing
is a self-conscious and deliberate means of marking the skin.
For TLACP Mcdonald will establish an extremely portable tattoo
parlour / kiosk using not needles, but rather gentle pressure
and water, to apply a 'LOVE' brand to subway passengers according
to their taste (in terms of location on the body). Although this
mark doesn't penetrate and is only temporary, it is hoped that
the fading and eventually phantom trace will serve as a reminder
of the intimate experience with a stranger.
